Bactrim and MTHFR C677T, SLC19a1, SOD2

Hi Dr. Kendra. I’ve enjoyed reading your insights and listening to some podcasts. I never thought I’d ask a question, as I’m sure you’re a busy woman, but I’m taking a shot that you may answer. If I have the above SNPs and have to take Bactrim for a severe (and I mean SEVERE) bladder infection, should I take care in supplementing with methyl-folate? I understand that it interferes with my folate pathway, inhibiting the bacteria to use folate, so I assume that I’m not able to use it either. If I supplement, am I just giving the bacteria nutrients in order to survive? Also, since this is a sulfa drug, should one be concerned about a SOD SNP? Would molybdenum be advisable? All of this is so confusing… I’m always learning, but sometimes it’s like groping in the dark. If you can provide me with some information, I wouldn’t be able to thank you enough!

Thank you so much for the question!!
without seeing your full genome it would be difficult to predict if you would tolerate methyl-folate. Also it should be a priority to discover the origin of the bladder infections!
Best of luck with your continued health journey!! Dr Kendra
